Listening session data would be used to illuminate a parallel process of a commissioned historical chronology in the field of psychology, detailing noted harm to communities of color. Listening sessions would inform an apology from APA to communities of color regarding the historical and current ways that psychology as a field and APA as an organization and governing body have contributed to harm to communities of color. Maysa Akbar and the office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Office staff provided the J&A team with the following information relative to the proposed scope of work: Information As articulated in the Call for Proposals, the overall goal of the project was to collaborate with the Task Force for the Eradication of Racism, Discrimination, and Hate and the subcommittees on APA apologies to “provide a public forum to better understand the harms caused by psychology’s historical contributions that have perpetuated systemic inequities for BIPOC members and communities.”ĭiscussions regarding the scope of the listening sessions began prior to the engagement of Jernigan & Associates (J&A).
